TASH TURGOOSE
FREELANCE WRITER & ILLUSTRATOR
Tash Turgoose is an author, illustrator and academic based on the Sunshine Coast, in Queensland, Australia. She holds First Class Honours in Creative Writing from the University of the Sunshine Coast, where she is currently studying for her PhD in Creative Writing, Media and Communications. Since dipping her toes in the world of writing, Tash has launched and directed a magazine, worked with global brands such as STA Travel and written and illustrated 3 books, within another coming soon…

// CREATIVE
Tash's debut book, Makeshift Galaxy, was released worldwide in January 2018, with Australian publisher Odyssey Books and their imprint Publisher Obscura. Tash served as author, illustrator and designer of the book, which follows a subtle, poignant love story in WWII Germany.

Tash also illustrated Felicity Banks’ The Monster Apprentice in 2018, and is a featured writer and artist in interactive narrative Murder in the Mail. In April 2020, her latest work will be released, a collaboration with best-selling author and adventurer Levison Wood.
// ACADEMIC
Tash is employed as a Sessional Academic at the University of the Sunshine Coast, where she is also completing her PhD in Creative Writing, Media and Communications. She has worked as a Tutor in 5 courses, and is now Course Coordinating ‘Writing for Screen’.
In 2019 she presented her research at the Children’s Media Symposium and the Australian Association of Writing Program’s Annual Conference. In 2020, she present again at the AAWP Annual Conference.
Her first journal article, Prosthetic journeys: Re-thinking travel writing through documentary adaptation, was published by TEXT Journal in October 2019.
// EDITORIAL & SOCIAL
In 2011, Tash launched T.x Magazine, serving as Editor-in-Chief. The magazine, which was dubbed the "illegitimate love child of National Geographic and Harper's Bazaar" for it's mix in adventure, lifestyle, history, entertainment and fashion pieces, grew to over 10K unique impression each month, and featured interviews with both domestic and international talent and brands. In 2013, the magazine hit the shelves to a sell out audience. Unfortunately, unforeseen illness forced the closure of the magazine in 2014.
From 2014 - 2016, Tash worked with STA Travel, the world's leading travel brand for under 30s, in content creation, customer experience and marketing.
ROAM MAGAZINE
Tash regularly organised content for the company's monthly magazine, Roam, which was distributed through stores and brand activations.
SOCIAL MEDIA
Tash worked on content creation for Facebook and Instagram, both imagery and words, and also regularly ran Facebook Q&A sessions, on travel and company offers.
BRAND ACTIVATIONS
Tash worked extensively on brand activations through universities, creating orientation week events, as well as on-campus giveaways and special events.
From 2016 - January 2020, Tash freelanced as a relief weather writer with Channel 7 Queensland. In this role, Tash wrote weather bulletins for six different regions from the Sunshine Coast up to Cairns, as well as nightly updates and severe weather warnings.
In addition to the above, Tash works as a freelance writer, and has an extensive portfolio of clients, varying from tutoring companies to investment companies, and with jobs ranging from blogging to illustrating, to technical writing.

After illustrating Makeshift Galaxy, Tash was commissioned to design and illustrate the University of the Sunshine Coast's 2017 anthology Fault Lines, and the Field of Words 2018 Anthology. She has also worked on illustrating a children's book series, The Monster Apprentice by Felicity Banks, which was released in February 2018. She was also a featured author and illustrator in the Murder in the Mail narrative experience, published in June 2018. In 2019, Tash worked with best-selling author Levison Wood, illustrating his book The Last Giants: The Rise and Fall of the African Elephant, published by Hodder and Stoughton in 2020.

A P P E A R A N C E S
In the wake of her publishing deal, Tash has secured multiple media and academic appearances.
In August 2017, she ran a workshop at Voices on the Coast youth literature festival, with acclaimed author Gary Crew, and illustrator Paul O'Sullivan. She has also been employed as a guest lecturer by the University of the Sunshine Coast's Creative Writing department, and is presenting a series of workshops at the university in 2018, with the most recent being Books As Art: Creative Journalling. In June 2018, Tash was a featured author at the Sunshine Coast's Year 8 Readers Cup, and in July of the same year she ran a number of talks and workshops at the Voices on the Coast Youth Literature Festival. Since 2017 Tash has appeared as a regular panelist at Oz ComicCon Brisbane.
